MBP making disc drive noises whilst 'asleep'

As per title.

My brand new Macbook Pro's Optical Drive has been making the 'Waking from sleep' sound every 10 or so seconds despite the fact that the lid is closed and the computer is 'asleep'.

Doesn't do it immediately but after a few hours and is extremely frustrating when I'm asleep! (Let alone, awake!).

I've reset the SMC and PRAM to no avail.

Has anyone else come accross this problem before?

I plan on making a Genius Appointment but my schedule is pretty tight over the next week or so.

Help would be greatly appreciated as I'm (literally) losing sleep over this!

I think I've found something within terminal:

Darkwake count in this sleep: 87

That would be the noises.

By the logs it seems to be happening every second or so (so not 10, like I said! Heck, I was asleep )

What could be causing this?

Sounds like there might be a foreign object that the machine is trying to eject. Don't fret, just shut down and get Apple to replace the superdrive.

Appreciate the response but it's not that. The MBP is actually waking from sleep on it's own.

A log of it's sleep history shows that it's 'dark waking' multiple times.
