I haven't tried to use an external display with Mavericks until recently. I used to be able to use a mini displayport -> HDMI + HDMI cable + Insignia TV (specs in sig) pre-Mavericks as a nice way to watch movies.
Recently bought an Asus VN247 monitor and my Mac cannot connect to properly. When I'm lucky the monitor recognizes the input and my screen is mirrored for a second before it starts to viciously flicker and eventually lose the input.
I've once again exhausted my brain power.
- PRAM resets
- different HDMI cable brands
- different sources of input (my Xbox looks beautiful on the Asus, but that's not why I bought it)
- multiple laptop restarts and powering on/off the monitor
- even tried connecting to the Insignia TV, which used to work effortlessly, and now that doesn't even work.
I found this Apple support thread with a similar problem but wasn't able to fix my issue. There's no OS X driver for the monitor on the Asus website, only different Windows drivers.
After reading around I'm thinking that this is a software thing with Mavericks, OR it's the mini DP -> HDMI converter OR or maybe both? Possibly even a port issue!?
I'm the most sad because now I have a beautiful Asus monitor sitting on my now extremely messy desk. I really don't want to return this thing
