I need 4 GBs of RAM. I currently have 2.0.

Apple retails these for $209.00 CAD. Am I safe to purchase an after market one for much cheaper?

Thanks for the links. And thanks for the heads up about your kit. However, I'm looking for something I can go grab asap in person.

Do I have to go to a big name shop like Best Buy or Apple? Or can I get any after market 4GB kit from local computer shops? Obviously you pay for what you get but are any particular brands mandatory? Or am I good with just about anything that says 4GBs. I'm looking for something in the low-low 100s if not less..

If you're in the GTA or southern Ontario, Canada Computers has 2x2GB Mushkin kits of 1066MHz DDR3 CL7 RAM for $99.99 CAD. Most of their locations have them in stock. They also usually have other RAM not listed on their website.

Don't the MBPs only have one slot for RAM.. forcing me to get a single 4GB rather than two 2GBs?

macbook pros have 2 slots for ram, and you can use any ram that matches the bus speed of the ram in the computer and that are laptop specific, so if its a new macbook pro you need 1066 mhz laptop ram, tower ram is HUGE

My dad bought RAM from Crucial, and it arrived less than 24h after he placed the order online (Shipped from California to Montreal).

It's still faster to buy in person, but not by much.
