Hey guys,
I'm aware of the plagued Graphics Card switching bug in the mid-2010 MBP's and at least for me, this issue became apparent/severe only once I moved to Lion. I didn't get a chance to opt for Apple's free service. I had hoped Mountain Lion would fix this, but turns out to be a hardware issue.
I used gfxstatus to force it to stay on integrated GPU for over a year.
I recently picked up the new MBP and was in the process of prepping the old machine for re-sale. Firstly, the installation didn't go as planned and I was stuck in some kind of Recovery mode, but the HDD won't show, so I can't format it.
I still tried taking it to the local computer shops to see what price I can still get. Out there, we tried 2 SSD's with Mavericks and the laptop crashes the minute it logs in to the desktop. Meh.
Seems like the graphics card switches due to some app. I can't even install gfxstatus on it yet. My last hope is to load a drive with Snow Leopard and drop it in, since it seemed okay on Snow Leopard or get a cloned drive with gfxstatus and tinker around. I obviously can't sell this
For a botched up model, Apple needs to offer unlimited support. For me, the issue popped up almost at the end of their 3-year replacement period.
Any ideas on how to get a stable OS running on this?
