I have a MBP mid 2012 Retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1 GB.

I would love to hook up a larger to larger 4k display. I'm currently looking at the LG 42.5 43UD79-B which has a resolution of 3840 x 2160.

I've read that my machine can handle that resolution but most articles and posts are from a few years ago since many OS updates.

I plan on replacing the machine sooner than later but could really use the screen realestate more than the processor speed improvements right now. And I can always use the monitor with the next machine.

My needs are for general web browsing, design, and photo editing. No gaming or video editing really.

Can my MBP mid 2012 handle the LG 42.5?

What challenges can I expect?

Am I dreaming that I can pull this off with such an old machine?

I drive a Dell UP2414Q with the exact same machine. 4k works but only in 30Hz, you cannot get 60Hz. It's a little laggy, but for your use case it should be fine if you can live with a little bit of a laggy "feel".
