MBP network issues

i have a macbook pro that i bought in january 2008 and it has recently started having network issues. i am getting less bandwidth and i can't see all of the machines on my work network. there are PCs and Macs and every machine i see is depicted with a PC icon. we also have a server and when it shows up, it is shown as a iMac. i don't know if this is an airport card problem or what. all of the other macs have no problem seeing every machine on our network. any help is very much appreciated
