MBP 17" santa rosa
worked fine until this week
when i try to boot it up nothing happens. no chime, no screen, but the sleep-light is on, the disc is spinning, it gets hot. if I close the lid the sleep-light is brighter.

no warranty, apple claims logic-extension is only valid with chime.

thinking of taking it to the local apple service provider but they charge $150/h just to look at it. how much do you think it will cost me? better to just buy a new one?

how do i get access to the files on in?

thanks!

Just take the HD out and put it in an external case. Use another computer (I think it has to be a Mac due to the filesystem type) to read the info. If you have a backup, all is well :).

nothing happens when i try it. dont think my comp gets far enough to start listen to the keyboard, capslock eject etc doenst do anything.

Your logic board has died. Call apple, you're going to have to pay for a replacement. Sorry to break it to you.

as I expected... how much? are we talking $200, $500 or $1000?

buying a new 13"(with educ and a free iPod touch, sell the ipod and buy a intel ssd) sounds more and more interesting....

sorry to hear it, remember though you will still want to remove your HD as this will be functioning when you/if someone else repairs the logic board

yep, but that looks a bit timeconsuming and difficult, also i need something to read the disc. maybe its worth my time to fix it and sell it for a bit more compared to spending lots of time trying to format the drive.

how much do you think a 2.4ghz, 160gb 3gb 1920x1200 sells for working and broken? i value my time so not really into finding the right buyer...

apple wanted $2k to fix the broken logic board. lol. will sell it as trash. while waiting a bought a 13" mbp, love it! unibody rules....
