My new MBP messed again. The volume icon is grey and there is no sound. When I plug in the headphone, the icon become black again. It's a hardware switch malfunction, which sometimes happens to iphone too. Does anyone have this kind of ****** problem for any other thousands of dollar expensive electronic devices?

Apple's hardware and OS are so terrible, if they can't continue to come up with innovative designs, it's gonna fade away again sooner or later.

Did you check to see what output device is chosen in Settings? (when the headphones are NOT plugged in btw)

They have already faded into oblivion since Steve Jobs quit as CEO, Apple will fall and fall and fall, as innovative design has everything to do with your problem, which is documented and often easily resolved.

But pertaining your problem and to not get any more aggravated by such bull manure, what about plugging and unplugging the headphone 3.5mm TRS connector several times and see if that works?

If that doesn't work, is there a red light visible inside the 3.5mm audio out port on the MBP. and what does System Preferences > Sound > Output (with and without headphones connected) say?

And to learn more about Mac OS X and its falling desire to wag the dog:
