MBP not auto unmounting HD on suspending

Hi

I have a MBP that I use with a 24" ACD, in the ACD is connected an USB HD for TimeMachine.

When the system goes to Sleep-Suspend the disk is not unmounted, so when I come back the system warns me "time machine disk was not unmounted properly blablabla" and then I have to unplug and plug again the usb on the HD.

I don't remember this when I used to have the HD connected directly to the MBP with Firewire.

What can be happening and/or can I solve this annoying issue?
