Recently did the OWC data doubler swap and I ordered the plastic case for the Superdrive so that I could use it externally.

Unfortunately it does not work. When connected directly to the MBP USB2 port there is a faintly audible sound of the drive trying to spin. Same when connecting to the USB3 port of the Belkin dock (version 2 with full USB3 support). MBP does not recognise the drive is there.

However the drive does work perfectly when connected to the USB3 port of a Dell laptop and on the two MacBook Air's we have.

It's unfortunate because the idea was to have the optical drive available if I needed it for the MBP not the other laptops. If I accepted the USB2 ports (have tried both) on the MBP dont supply enough power to drive the optical unit how come the USB3 port on the Belkin dock doesn't work too?

Anyone with experience of this or information? Cheers.
