MBP not recognising DVDs?

Everytime i put a dvd in my mbp i get the message "supported format not recognised" in dvd player and front row says that the format is not recoginised either....whats going on? i havnt changed any options and ive used dvd's since i installed OSX 10.4.8

I have this problem occasionally when I'm booted to windoze on my MBP and I haven't figured it out yet either.

Did you buy theses DVDs from/in another country, or from a really shady dealer?
