Hey guys,

So first off, I know the MBP is not an ideal platform for games, but it has sorta bankrupted me so it's what I have for now. I got a MBP right after the Feb revision, so it's a 2.4 ghz penryn with 2 gb ram and the 256 mb nvidia 8600m gt, very standard. Theoretically, this machine is powerful enough to run oldish games like Oblivion perfectly, right? And even new games with some tuning on the gfx.

In fact, all the games I've installed on Windows autodetect the settings to high or extremely high, and a couple of youtube vids show people getting excellent frames in Oblivion and (here's the meat of the thread) the Witcher with my rig or less. I just finished Assassin's Creed with most settings on high, too.

So, imagine my surprise when the Witcher runs like a half-dead mule on my computer. Specifically, when dealing with fancy lighting effects like flaming enemies or glowing stones. Currently, I'm in a part of the game where everything is on fire, and with every setting on low, AA disabled and Anisotropic filtering at 1x, the game isn't running like a half-dead mule, but more like a rotting mule.

So, any ideas off the cuff? Yes, I've updated my video drivers, I believe to 176 or thereabouts (those tweak drivers, not the nvidias). I have no idea what sound driver to install other than what came off the mac cd. Could it be 2gb of ram vs 4gb? I mean, this sounds like a gfx problem to me, so... is the 8600 gt just vastly underpowered compared to my expectations?

Thanks guys!
