MBP not seeing new Buffalo Linkstation LS-CHL via APX

Hello all,

I am trying to install a new Buffalo linkstation ls-chl nas drive using my MPB via airport extreme (later I will also need to access it through a PC (xp) and ps3)...Problem I am having is that when install the software it says "alert: no linkstations found" and will not proceed

Should I just hard wire the MPB and Buffalo together and not go through the APX for setup? Is there some sort of static IP I need to use?

I'm a real newb at this so any advice or steps to take in the simplest form is greatly appreciated.
