hey there,
I'm trying to buy a macbook pro and I have come across this MBP
http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0283483
which is a 15.4in MB134LL/A model with a 2.5 Ghz and 512mb DDR3 video memory.

I am not sure which one to get, either the one above or the new one on the apple website (i can get it at macmall for 1799). As for the one above, the price is 1599. Given the specs what would you recommend? the 2.5 ghz old generation or the 2.4 ghz new generation with new video card but less memory for it (256). Would the 2.5 ghz and 512mb ddr3 really make a difference in performance compared to the new generation which is 2.4 ghz and 256mb ddr3.

Thanks for the feedback,
Michael

If i had to buy mine all over again, i think i would purchase the newer one. I think the GPU will come in handy with the release of 10.6, while the Uni-Body is also a better feature for me.

I must say though, mine has performed flawlessly for me, and i really haven't had any real issues with my MBP 2.16.

The specs on the new ones are nice, but damn i love my early 08. Matte <3

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

It all depends on what you plan on using it for. The GPUs in the newer MBPs are quite a bit faster than in the older ones so if you are planning on using it for gaming or for photoshop type things you probably will see a difference. If you plan on just word processing and email then it won't really matter if you go with the older one. Hope this helps.

I prefer the unibody structure than the old clam shell. It feels/is much more sturdier.
