First thing anybody should do when troubleshooting kernel panics:

Make sure any third-party kernel extensions that are installed are fully up-to-date.

If they are, and you still have problems:

Remove any third-party kernel extensions.

In both cases, that would be VMware Fusion and Symantec Internet Security.

Your dump indicates a problem with the kernel_task process. This supports the possibility that a third-party kernel extension is the cause of your problem.

The next thing I would look at would be the USB devices (ie: storage devices or mice/keyboards) that you are currently using. Remove them from the system and then see if the crashes stop.

Also, your USB3-to-1GbE dongle has a driver update for OS X 10.10 that was released in December. You might want to update it (or remove that device if you already have updated it.)

Here's are the available downloads for it:

Thanks for your input. Can't remove Fusion 7. I use it all the time and it's updated to the current version. Could try removing Norton though. I look at updating that driver. I have two different Ethernet dongles: 1 Apple thunderbolt one and a SIIG one.

Not so much the brand of the 1GbE dongle you need to look at. It's the chip used inside that needs the driver. In your case, that would be the one made by ASIX. I got the chip model from your crash report. Right near the end of it: "AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet". Googled "AX88179", and found ASIX to be the manufacturer of it. SIIG "might" have a driver, but it's been my experience that I've had to usually go to the manufacturer of the internal chip to get the latest drivers, because the companies that sell the adapters to end users don't usually update them as often (or at all in some cases) after their initial release.

Removed the AX88179 driver. Can you tell what version is loaded from the crash report? Is there a Mac utility to show the loaded drivers?

From what I can see, there is no driver currently installed for it, as it would have most likely shown up in the "loaded kexts" section of the dump since you had it plugged in at the time.

Simply installing the driver might fix things.

Are you able to reliably reproduce the crash? Being able to do that will greatly improve the chances of finding the root cause.

I can't recreate the crashes yet. They seem random. I had the VMware people look into their crash logs. No clues there.

Another Panic a short while ago! It is the same info as the earlier one that I posted? Thanks!

I thought you were going to remove the Norton IS software. That can be configured to auto-scan fixed and removable storage, and your crashes appear to deal with USB devices and/or storage.

Remove that software and if the crashes happen again, you will probably have to get Apple involved for further help, because at that point the chances are decent that it's a hardware problem. (I use Fusion 7 Pro (latest update as well), without kernel crashes, so it's probably safe to rule that out at this point.)

I was. I got busy and didn't get a chance. So I just installed OS X 10.10.3 and uninstalled Norton. We'll see if this does the trick. I hope it does.

Ahh, ok. Yeah, I hope that fixes it as well. It would be a bummer for it to be a hardware problem ... having to go without your system while it's fixed.
