mbp powers up automatically when magsafe is plugged

my macbook pro powers up from deep hibernation when i plug in the magsafe connector and open the lid, without me pressing the power button.

not sure if this is a snow leopard feature, but i've never noticed this before in leopard. i like this feature (hope it's not a malfunction), and i was wondering if there is official documentation on this somewhere.
