MBP RAM in an iMac and vice versa

I've gone and bought myself a MBP i5 2.3ghz to sit along side our iMac 3.0ghz i3 which we use as a home machine. Both will be used for the same things, my girlfriend uses Logic and I'll probably move to using the MBP for running all my accounts etc.

I'd quite like to bring the memory on the MBP up to 8GB. Am I right in thinking that I can use the memory I remove from the MBP in the iMac? Has anyone done this?
