how long does this last with the screen on whilst using it?

Depends upon what you're using. i.e. email and surfing the web (with NO Flash sites) and the default brightness level (and Bluetooth turned off), you'll 8-10 hours. Other programs (video or image editing) can use up the battery faster,

8-10 hours on my 2015 13" rMBP. If I'm doing anything graphics intensive, or if I have the brightness cranked up, it'll be less than that.

The battery has gone worse after the El Capitan update. It could easily go upto 8 hours with Yosemite on my rMBP 15" 2014 with iGPU but now under the same usage conditions it hardly makes 5-5.5 hours.

My battery life went up a bit with the new update. I have a mid 2009 13" 2.53gHz with 8 Gb of ram and I get about 5.5 hours of heavy use. Before the update I would get roughly 4.5 hours with the same use. This is with a new battery replaced about 6 weeks ago, and the update was done a week ago. In class I have my wifi off, screen brightness almost all the way down and am only using keynote and my battery estimated time is around 7.5 hours.

I'm easily getting around 9 hours of light usage (Safari, coding) on my Late 13 13" rMBP and maybe 4-5 hours of editing photos and "getting stuff done". But what surprises me the most is this thing's endurance when I'm doing virtually nothing, sitting in the library, going through some PDFs and generally just staring at the screen - many times I've seen more than 12 hours of this kind of usage and I'm almost sure it could last for as long as 15 hours with wireless off and without any significant CPU activity.
