Hey everyone,

I just got a new LG 55UF77 Ultra HDTV.

I connected my early 2015 13" Macbook pro with an HDMI cable, but when I connect it and go to
"About This Mac" - "Displays" it shows "LG TV Display 30.5-inch (1920x1080)"

How can I get it to find the correct tv? I've never even connected my macbook to a 30.5" tv before.

The picture looks blurry regardless of if I choose 1080p or 4K mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jonas

I recommend you update the software on the TV, the Hardware Identifier that functions through HDMI is clearly not identifying itself or its capabilities correctly(reso)..

Also I recommend looking over this article as well.. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856

Our monitor is a 27UD88, but same issue. Found the following things helped:
  • In the monitor menu, go to Picture > Picture Adjust, and turn HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on.
  • In the Display section of System Preferences, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Scaled button; then you will see more options for resolution.
For some reason, my Macbook (mid-2014 15") still sees the monitor as a 30.5" 1920x1080 display, but I'm still working on that.
