hi guys,

have a look at this
http://s358.photobucket.com/albums/oo21/jpma2007/?action=view&current=DSC02834.jpg

I'm comparing screen gamut from the new 13'' mbp and my early 09 15' mbp.
both are calibrate to bring out the best color from the screen.

you can clear tell my 15'' doesn't bring out a better color as well as the stage lighting spill on the bottom of the screen which happens on alot of mbp before too.

I don't have the latest 15''.
But I'm going to change my 15'' screen regarding this color problem.
not sure will it be change to the new 15'' type of screen or just the old model screen.

Hopefully the newer one which I'll get a better gamut and richer color.
But the fact is clear that I paid a cheaper price for 13'' and paid higher price before the price cut yet I'm getting a screen that can't even provide a proper color.

Or maybe I just have a defective screen that I just notice.

Like dead-pixels, LCD screens also suffer from backlight bleed. The 15" MacBook Pro in your photo suffers badly from it.

I'd have returned that 15" MacBook Pro..

this is actually my second replacement of the 15''.

have been using it for a month now, called applecare said that they can't replace the unit not unless there's some part replace on it first.

from the way it looks it has to replace some parts then can further request for a unit exchange.

so currently they are trying to replace the screen.

btw,

anyone here with your latest 15'' & 13'' mbp.
doesn't matter what screen model.

Does yours have any light spill or some call stage lighting or light bleeds from the lower part of your screen?

That's weird - the later MBP displays are LED and should not suffer from such lighting spills. They just aren't lit the way an LCD is (fluorescent distribution lighting). Anyway, mine is even all around and it's an 04/09 machine.

Just because the LCD screen uses LED's as the backlighting method, doesn't mean it is immune to backlight bleed.

Hi Ian

remember mine is early 09 15'' mbp
I believe yours is also the same early 09 model
that's why I'm trying to find out anyone with mid 09 model
have any light spill with their mid 09 mbp

my 13'' mbp from mid 09 doesn't have the light spill anymore.
so I'm wonder did apple fix this problem.

I have a late '08 2.53 uMBP 15... zero bleed from what I can see. You definitely want to get the panel checked/replaced.
