MBP screen doesn't wake up when I open the lid

This happens randomly. I don't know if it's the new hard drive I put in there, which I doubt.

The screen flickers from time to time (nVidia issue.) Don't have the time to take it in right now, but I will.

Any ideas appreciated.

It's a 2008 late unibody, 4gb ram, 2.66Ghz, Hitachi 500GB 7200RPM hard drive.

I had this on a 13" from 2009.
SMC reset fixed it.
I think it had got its knickers in a twist about whether to use internal or external display.
Worth a try.

Yup. SMC reset has fixed this issue for me before as well.
