MBP slow cd ripping to itunes?

I just got a brand new base model pro and noticed it takes way long to copy cd's to i tunes on the new mac. It starts at 5k and might get up to 7 or 8k, but never faster than that. My 2 year old Dell is way faster, like 15k...is this normal or do I have something set improperly?
