hi,

my MBP circa oct '10 (i7; SSD; 8GB ram) is somewhat slow to simply turn on and chime. it takes roughly six-seven seconds to get to that point. afterward, though, it's very fast to boot to desktop. it's a new machine and if anyone could solve this discrepancy for me, that'd be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Do you have Windows installed via Boot Camp? It may look for a bootable device first and that takes some time. I have the same "problem" with my MBP, but I only use its sleep feature, therefore I only turn it on every month or so.

really now. my old macbook pro was almost instantaneous.

and i'm just shutting down and turning on normally.

Mine did this right after the SSD upgrade; I had to go back into the Startup Disk control panel and re-select the drive, as it was hunting for the old one before falling back to the new.

hurm, i actually got the SSD from apple, so would it still be looking for the "old" one?
