MBP slow while charging

Hey everyone, I have a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
4GB RAM. When I'm charging the laptop, once it reaches 20% battery charge the computer becomes extremely slow and choppy and it only gets better at around 50%. Has this happened to anyone else?
