Hi I have a quick question about installing OS X leopard on a new MBP. I have been thinking about getting a new MBP and possibly buying a 3rd party SSD to upgrade it with. I assume that once the physical installation of the disk is complete, you just insert the software restore DVD into the drive and reinstall the OS correct? Since the machine would be brand new and have nothing on it, there would be no need to move data from the old disk to the new one?

In addition, I don't use any of the bundled iLife applications. I don't produce music (garageband), do video editing (imovie, idvd, etc) and for my photography I use Adobe Lightroom and CS3 instead of iPhoto. I would like to get rid of all these applications to free up some disk space. Also, I remember that when I installed Leopard on my current mac I was able to save tons of room on the install by doing a custom installation and deselecting a lot of unecessary items like the 6GB or so (!) of printer drivers that Leopard wants to install by default. (Maybe that's where Snow Leopard's 6GB of disk savings will come from hehe)

Therefore, even if I don't do a 3rd party upgrade of the HD I would like to immediately wipe the factory install and put on a fresh clean copy of OS X. I'm wondering if I reinstall the OS from the included DVDs would it automatically put all those extra apps in or is the system disk included with modern macs an OS only disk, with a second "applications" DVD to go with it? (i.e. is the system restore disk of a MBP the same as a retail copy of OS X?) Or would there be any issues just using my existing Leopard retail install disk to install on a new MBP to get a clean installation right off the bat?

On my current computer (PBG4) this was easy because I purchased a retail copy of Leopard to upgrade the OS. I just installed that using erase and install, and didn't bother to reinstall any iLife or unwanted apps. I am not sure how my PBG4 system disks are configured as I have never had cause to use them, and don't know if the restore DVDs they provide nowadays are different anyhow since my laptop is 5 years old anyways.

Anyways, thanks if you can help answer this question!
