Hi all,
So, I know this topic has been beaten to death, and I've read every thread pertaining to it, but there are still some questions I'd like to throw out there (mainly because they're very specific to my set-up needs). I'm hoping some of you are on a similar boat.
Recently bought a late 2011 MBP, 2.4, i7, and I want this bad girl to take everything I throw at her. (Autocad on OSX, Autocad on win 7 via BootCamp and VMWare, 3DS Max via Bootcamp, Revit via Bootcamp (possibly VMWare) and CS5 via Bootcamp and on OSX)
Having thought about this for a while, I've settled on maxing out RAM (16G already installed), upgrading primary storage drive to a 256G Crucial M4 SSD and using existing 750G HDD as a file managent drive.
I've also decided that I want to have both OSX and Win 7 boot from the SSD since I need performance on both platforms.
My questions are:
1. Does anyone see any problems with this set-up?
2. How do you recommend I set-up the 750G HDD? I assume I'll need at least 2 partitions. 1 formated for OSX and the other for Win 7.
3. Should I copy the boot volume/software/settings from my HDD to the SSD or just start from scratch on the SSD?
4. Given my specific drive, TRIM on or off?
5. Has anyone had any experience with a similar set-up, usage needs?
I loved this post http://mattgemmell.com/2011/06/21/using-os-x-with-an-ssd-plus-hdd-setup/ , but the terminal lingo is listed in a way that assumes a certain level of experience. Can anyone point me to a place where I can read up on exactly how to do this?
I'd like to be taught how to fish, gentlemen.
Sorry for the long post. All help will be appreciated.
