I recently upgraded to El Capitan, and now I'm seeing an issue where my MBP thinks one of my two monitors is still connected. If I go to System Preferences -> Display, two windows pop up, one for my Dell 2405FPW, and one for the Built-In Retina Display. On the Built-In, I see two displays side by side.
The two major problems with this is, whatever applications I had on that monitor stay there after I physically disconnect the monitor, so they're effectively hidden. I can't even see them on Mission Control. I have to right click on the App in the Dock, select Option and select Desktop on Display 1 for it to reappear. Also, I can drag a window off to the left, and it will "disappear" into my unattached monitor display.
Is there a way to force-disconnect a monitor that's physically already disconnected?
[doublepost=1455334907][/doublepost]Okay, I posted way too soon. My "fix" was to just close my MBP and reopen it. After that, my unconnected monitor disappeared. I never had to do this before pre El Capitan. It's a minor annoyance, but at least there's a workaround.
