So,

Everything was working fine. Brightness was less than 50% & battery was performing better than ever. But just a little while ago I observed a sudden high energy impact from apps that generally don't have much energy impact, or at least, I have not seen them have any major energy impact. The two main culprits are Mendeley and Microsoft Word. Both are linked to each other as I use Mendeley for creating citations in word documents. Mendeley especially was creating mountains in the energy impact graph as I was scrolling through a document stored on it. After turning off Mendeley I saw MS Word having higher than usual energy impact as well. Merely clicking on the Word icon (while still open in the background) increases it energy impact from 0.XX to 7.XX to XX.XX in seconds. Word's energy impact also gets into double digits while merely scrolling.

Logically, the battery drained faster than usual. The only thing that I did before I observed high energy impact was visit a website called Business Standard (India) as I wanted to cite an article from the website. On & off, Safari, Notes, and even Activity Monitor are also having relatively high energy impact.

On the other hand, CPU & Memory usage appear to be fine.

Is it possible that a Malware found its way into my MacBook? Indian websites could be quite tricky in this regard. I also found that my MacBook's firewall was turned off by default.
