MBP superdrive not so super

I have had my MBP for the last 10 months. It seems it can no longer read DVD though no problem with CDs. Is this covered by the standard 12 months warranty? if so do I need to return my MBP to it's original state 4GB ram ->2GB and 320GB HD - > 160GB I did both of the upgrades my self none are with "Apple" parts.
