MBP SXS Card Reader Issue Since Snow Leopard

Has anyone else had an issue with their SXS Card reader working since installing Snow Leopard? Every time I insert the memory card, I get the white screen that rolls from top to bottom stating that I need to restart my computer, hold in the power button for 5 seconds...blah blah blah. If I start with the card in, then power it up, it wont even go to the desktop, the screen comes down during the apple screen.

Its called a kernel panic. Mind posting the log for us to see? Log can be found in /Library/Logs/PanicReporter after rebooting. My guess is it's IOATAfamily kernel extension related.

MBP and SxS problem

I just experiensed the same problem with my MBP(2007, Snow Leopard, 2,4Ghz, 4GB)).

Few seconds after I inserted the SxS card message appeared to the screen telling that I need to restart my computer. And after restart the same message appeared until I removed SxS card from the slot.

I have used SxS card before succesfully, but this is the first time after snow leopard FCS 3 update.

So what is this? Can it be fixed?

I have the exact same problem

The driver is now listed in the 10.6 "Incompatible Software" package used in the background by Migration Assistant. I've just run into this problem myself on a client's new iMac i7 (see attached image). Frustratingly, the URL Apple references, doesn't even list the incompatible driver.

I've come across an "Updated" driver v1.0.52020 which can be downloaded from here:

https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software-model-SXSDRIVERS.aspx

which are compatible with 10.6.4 or later (according to the readme) and appears to be circa April 2010.

You may need to boot into safe mode (hold shift key on a reboot until you get a login window) and move the following driver to the trash:

/System/Library/Extensions/SxS Memory Card.kext

Or use the uninstaller included in the new driver v1.0.52020 download

Then try installing the new v1.0.52020 driver.

I'm about to do this myself in the next few days. We'll see what happens.
