Hey all, I have an early 2011 MBP (specs in signature) running Windows 8 pro x64 on bootcamp. I have Lubbo's Fan Control for temp monitoring and changing fan speeds, and have noticed that if I leave the computer idle for about 5 minutes, the temperatures suddenly ramp up, as do the fans, and when I start using it again, the temperatures lower. Any idea why this might be happening?

Well, only the discrete graphics are active when you are in bootcamp.

Any chance you have a screen saver that runs when in Windows? If it's using OpenGL, that could account for it.

No screen saver, screen just dims when idle for more than 5 minutes

Boot Camp drivers or current AMD?

Does it behave the same way with the fan control software removed?

I'm using the normal, up to date bootcamp drivers, and the newest AMD drivers. I haven't tried that, I'll get rid of it and keep an eye on it

Alright, got rid of the fan control, let it be for a while, it still went from 45 C to 75 C even though there was no GPU activity whatsoever.
