So I recently bought a 1080p Samsung 37" LCD TV. I intended to use it for watching movies, cable TV, and plugging in my MBP. However, when I plug in my MBP using the HDMI-DVI cable, the picture doesn't fill the entire screen. My MBP states that it is outputting 1080i, which might be part of the problem. I know there are ways to fix this because I've seen it done before. I thought there was something with adjusting the display settings that are more detailed than those offered by System Prefs.

Any suggestions?

Never mind. I solved my own problem. I'll post the solution here in case anyone else has this problem:

1. Download SwitchResX.
2. Go to the Custom tab under Resolutions.
3. Create a new resolution.
4. I used these settings which worked with my 1080p HDTV over an HDMI-DVI cable:
attachment.php

5. Turn on "Overscan."

I ended up rebooting a lot, changing various settings etc. YMMV
