I noticed yesterday that birthdays were showing up 5 times in my calendar app on my MBP touch bar so googled and found some fixes on the apple site. One of the issues was that my contacts were duplicated multiple times on my Mac, maybe as a result of me signing in and out of iCloud a lot this week after having issues authorising my new iPhone XS.

I followed the advice which was to go to the card menu in calendar, check for duplicates and then merge. This cleared up all of the duplicate contacts but birthdays now showed 3 times (rather than the previous 5 times) so I went into accounts in calendar and unchecked iCloud contacts and now I only see two duplicates.

Firstly what is the difference between my iCloud account and iCloud contact account shown below and should I still have iCloud Contacts checked? Secondly how do I get rid of the last of the duplicates? The google account doesn't have contacts checked.

Any help appreciated.
