Hi all!

I've been running into a problem, after trying to fix it with my own basic understanding and existing threads, I have gotten a bit stuck, and I would love your help/ideas for a fix!

I'm running High Sierra 10.13.3 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014).

About a year ago I got a single drop of water on my keyboard near the on/off button. After that everything was fine, a few days later my keyboard and trackpad stopped working. External keyboard worked fine, but my external mouse was extremely laggy/jittery. After some googling I figured the internal trackpad must still be sending a signal, which would be blocking the external mouse. I then found a terminal command to deactivate the trackpad's kernel.

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBMultitouch.kext

Lo and behold, after running that command the built-in keyboard on my laptop started working again! It wasn't perfect, I had to run the command after every startup but it was good enough for me.
Since then updates to the OS have been screwing with this 'solution'. After every update the fix stops working, so I've found some other commands that sometimes help.

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTrackpad.kext

Current situation is: sometimes when I restart my computer the internal keyboard works, other times it doesn't. This is seemingly random. The external mouse always works fine after a reboot, but it always starts lagging after 20-30 min of use. The only 'fix' at the moment is to reboot my computer, the kextunload commands are not working any more.
At some point I tried to completely delete the kernel, which I'm sure you guys could've advised me against - that resulted in a wasted afternoon and a factory reset + backup recovery.

It would be really great if any of you have ideas how I might fix this a bit more permanently! The computer is still fine in every other respect and I would like to avoid going in for a costly repair or replacement. Just let me know if you need any more information, and thanks in advance !! =D
