Hello! I just created an account because I literally have tried everything, search a ton of forums, and still cant fix my problem.
Macbook Pro Mid 2012 13" 2.9 Ghz i7 (model 9.2)
Currently 16 GB ram and 2 samsung 850 evo 500gb SSDs set up striped, raid 0.
My macbook pro recently was becoming unusably slow all the way up to the point where my HDD crashed. So I figure it's time to go all in with the upgrades so i get 16 GB of ram (2x 8), and 2 samsung 850 evo 500GB SSDs. I set up one in the regular slot, and use OWC Data Doubler to set up the second one where the optical drive would be. All hardware install goes fine, i've opened my mac up a few times and know what I'm doing in that regard. I also have everything in time machine, but I want to start 100% fresh and drag stuff over as needed over the next few months.
I have yosemite installer on a usb drive (got the file online thru a reupload/mirror cause I've heard bad things about el capitan) and used it for disk utility to set up the SSDs striped in raid 0--that goes fine as well. Then I install yosemite. After some hanging at the "one second remaining" for a while it finally finishes, restarts, and then goes back to another progress screen where it hangs at 11 minutes remaining. I restart after like an hour, it boots up again, progress screen hangs again but I let it sit for like 5 hours until it finally finishes. Then when it goes to to the welcome screen it's very slow. Every mouse click takes about a minute to process. I do eventually get through it all to the home screen but now its still unusably slow. 1 min pinwheels for every single action I do. So far I have:
Verified and Repaired Disk Permissions
Verified Disk (no errors)
Reset PRAM/NVRAM
Reset SMC
Every time when I boot up it takes a few minutes and then its just unusably slow with every action I take hanging for a min or so.
Should I try reinstalling off the boot drive? If so, can somebody explain the exact order I should do everything in (setting up raid, installing osx, etc.)
please help!! thank you!!
