I have a mid 2010 MBP 13inch 2.4GHz machine with 8GB of RAM. I like it a lot but I've been ripping my blu rays using MKV and then converting to MP4/M4V using handbrake.

The conversions are taking a looooooong time, sometimes more than 24 hours.

Seeing as it's almost 3 years old I'm thinking about upgrading but looking at the specs of the 2013 MBPs I'm not sure if the conversions would end up being much faster.

The 2013 13inch MBP I would look at has a 2.9GHz processor (Now an i7) and 8GB RAM, is that really going to make that much difference or do I need to go with a 15inch or even an iMac/Mac Pro?

You'd want to look at something with a quad-core CPU for that kind of work, which eliminates all 13-inch Apple notebooks.

Encoding/Decoding take advantage of the GPU and CPU.

The 13" only has an iGPU and it would not be at fast as the 15" with the dGPU.

Get the 15" since it has a quad. Or, get an iMac/Mini with the quad.
