I got my Macbook Pro A1286-i7 checked from a Laptop Service Center and the diagnosis report was something like this.

Because of water-logging the voltage from the logic board is not reaching the display and also the display is damaged.

But I never had any kind of liquid go into my Macbook Pro. It merely fell down from a small height. No damage to the motherboard as the machine works with an external display after the impact but the screen died.

So now I want some advice from the experts here on MacRumors.

Can something like this happen?

I am ready to replace the LCD screen but they are also asking me to replace the motherboard which shoots the price of the repair through the roof ($800).

Mind you that the machine works just fine with an external display.
I also don't see the display listed in the About this Mac => Displays section. [pictures added].
Just the external display. What could have caused this?
Thinking of buying a LCD screen from and fit it in myself and see if the repair guys are right about the motherboard.

Kindly help me out on how to go about it.
