Restore partition comes up with the same "no hardware installed" error so I assume it's a hardware issue of some kind, rather than a duff kernel extension yada yada...
Opened the MBP (mid-2010 15.4'', A1286) and found it looked like a combined Bluetooth/802.11 card... sure enough, turns out that's what it is (APN#661-5515). Re-seated and checked both ends of ribbon were secure, rebooted, and of course it's still not working (not that I expected it to... those ribbons are pretty nicely seated)
So, before I go off and buy a replacement Airport card, I've a nagging question: How likely is it that, as a combined BT/802.11 card, my Bluetooth seems to work perfectly normally, while the 802.11 peripheral is duff?
