My MBP running 10.5.5 will boot fine but doesn't load the Login Screen. It just cycles the blue screen that appears before it and searching (and finding) the startup disk. It started happening after logging out to let a couple icon changes apply.

Any idea why this just started happening?

Hopefully the Archive and Install I am doing now fixes this...

Well, the archive and install replaces the whole system, so yes, it will fix it. Although a simple Repair Disk Permissions might have done the same.

Tried, found nothing out of the ordinary and fixed nothing to do with the problem. 20 more minutes to see if the A&I worked.

Looks like all is fine, just need to install all of the updates...fun.

Still puzzled as to what could have happened.
