2011 MBP 15" i5 running Lion.

Connected it up via Mini Displayport to HDMI cable to my new Samsung HDTV.

Samsung says "No signal detected".

I go to system preferences > displays and no external display is detected.

What am I missing?

What exact cable are you using?

I don't use Lion, but I remember seeing some threads in the Lion sub forum about problems with external displays, and the TV is just another external display.

It's just a generic Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter plugged into an HDMI-HDMI cable.

Cycle through your HDMI inputs on your TV. If it is like my TV, I have 3 and the easiest HDMI slot is on the side of the TV, which is number 3 on the input screen.

I've already tried that. Gone through all of the HDMI/external inputs on the TV.

Shouldn't I be seeing the Macbook recognise an external display in system preferences > displays? Because nothing shows up.

Something wierd..

When I connect the MBP to the TV and the TV if OFF, as soon as the Mini Displayport goes into the MBP, the screen flashes blue and I can open up a system preferences > displays window called "SAMSUNG". As soon as I turn the TV on, the MBP display flashes blue again and the SAMSUNG window is gone and I can't detect anything anymore..
