MBP wont turn on (after using a dodgy charger possibly?)

Hi guys, my MBP is failing to switch on.

The over the last week I noticed my charger showing some minor damage to the wire so put some isulation tape round it and worked fine since.

However today I noticed the charger wasnt charging the laptop.

It then eventually died so used my brothers MBP charger instead. When this is plugged in, the light is green instead of amber for charging. If I press the battery button on the side, only one flashes.

Its been plugged into the new charger for over 30 minutes now and nothing happens when I press the power on button :-(

What can I try next?

You can try an SMC reset, other than that it's a trip to the genius bar.

Just tried that, held down the shift + ctrl + alt + power button. (Whilst doing that, a white light briefly came on the right of the front edge of the laptop). Released then pressed the power button but hasnt worked :-(

Update:

I have taken the battery out myself (had to unscrew 3 screws) and put the back cover on.

Plugged in the charger, it's still showing green.

Hit the power on and still nothing happens.. :-(

Is your brother's charger the same as your old one? If he's got like a 45W MB Air charger and you have a 15" pro, it probably won't work with your laptop for example.

Yeah it's the same charger, often swap between the two
