Mac notebook's have been having sharp edge issues basically since the beginning.

I found that buying a case (like the Speck SeeThru Satin) helps out a lot.
 
The only area that I find excessively sharp is the corners of the thumb scoop. Those edges seem like they could cut you pretty well.

That said the only time I notice the edge is when using the trackpad; I never had an issue while typing; and I do not type correctly.
 
You have your mbp pulled all the way to the front of the desk. This way, your forearms/elbows have nothing to rest on, unless you have armrests on your chair. Push the laptop about a foot forward so you can rest your elbows on the desk. You won't have so much pressure on your wrists anymore. This is pretty simple ergonomics...
