I heard that each thunderbolt port can power 2 externals. Is there a cheap and small thunderbolt splitter, this way I don’t have to use all available 3 ports?
Are there any cheap splitters that don’t need their own power source?

Scenario 2:
Or, I could connect two thunderbolts directly with cable and get a decent hub for the third port to power the 3rd external and provide me additional ports ( usbs etc, ethernet etc)
Which hub would you recommend. perhaps a thunderbolt 4 for future?

have you tried daisy chaining? That would allow you to use just 2 port to feed the three monitors. 2 would be daisy chained to the laptop. Else, a TB dock that supports 2-4K monitors would work - plenty out there in the market, such as Caldigit TS3+.
