I finally found a local store that had a demo unit of the MBP16. I been eager to see the new keyboard in person.

...it's a bit of meh to be honest. Not bad, but I expected more.

I'm not one of the persons that hate the butterfly keyboard, so that may play in, but I also tried the classic MBP keyboard, and this new input device is nothing like the old one.

If it yields fewer breakdowns then I guess it's all good, but if a new MBP13 only have the new keyboard as the main attraction, then I'm not gonna bother upgrading.

Discrete GPU and a new keyboard? Fine - take my money, but the keyboard alone is not reason enough for me to upgrade.

End rant.

The whole point is it's more reliable - IMO butterfly keyboards are all ticking timebombs

I'm inclined to agree with you OP. I had a 2018 MBA and it simply wasn't good enough for what I needed to do with it.

I find the butterfly keyboard fine and I believe Apple has drastically improved them in the 2019 models. I definitely wouldn't upgrade from a 2019 13" to the 16" if you're comfortable with it.

I think the fact that the new keyboard is a whole lot of non-news might be the whole point of the thing. A keyboard shouldn't be the focus of one's attention when buying a computer—it should just work, it should fade into the background as a foregone conclusion. It's when a company gets it wrong that it becomes a glaring problem.

Yup. prior to the butterfly keyboard, no one was boasting about the best keyboard on a laptop. I'm just happy this machine seems to have a much better keyboard than the butterfly.

I reserve the right to eat crow when mine fails, but I don't hate the 2018 butterfly. I like the typing experience just fine. I use multiple keyboards in my day to day and my MBP is the best. That said I am glad they are fixing the things so people can have a great experience. I just hope I can get my normal 5 years out of my machine without more than a few keyboards;).

Yeah, my wife's machine went about 3 years without a problem (first model MacBook). She got the keyboard replaced after 3 years and then four months later had it serviced again.

It was out of the replacement program in November so we moved on to a 2019 MBA, which appears to have a much more reliable keyboard.

If you didn't hate the Butterfly keyboard then odds are you aren't going to be blown away by this new one. I am in the "hated it" camp and find the new keyboard so much more comfortable to type on. Its also much quieter to type on as well imo.

I personally won't be happy with the Macbook Pro keyboard until they cut the bull crap out and switch to a buckling spring mechanism.
