considering the following configurations

Refurb 2.5Ghz / 6M chace / 800Ghz FSB/ 5400rpm HD / 512 vram / DDR2

New 2.4Ghz / 3M chace / 1066Ghz FSB/ 7200rpm HD / 256 vram / DDR3

Which machine will run faster?

Probably the newer one - but by how much is another question. Is it worth $500? Maybe if you are actually using your computer to make money.

well.. unluckly in Italy the price difference is much smaller than that...
it's 1873€ for the new one (with 7200HD and dvi adaptor)
and 1.829 € for the refurb

It's just 50€... so i think I'm gonna go for the new one!

With such a low price difference I'd definitely go for the new one if you don't mind the glossy display.
