I currently run a mid 2011 MBP 2.3G with HD 6750M gfx & 8GB RAM. I use both the 'hirez' screen and an external Dell U2711 via thunderbolt/mini displayport. The *only* thing that bothers me about this is that as soon as a bit of flash pops up in Safari or I watch a video - the fans kick in > 6000rpm. The CPU load is low during this and I expect it to be the system using the 6750gfx chipset which apparenty is 'on' all the time with an external monitor. I also run cubase which permanently keeps the fans spinning even when the program is idle with no projects loaded
Does anyone here run the new MBPr with an external monitor? How does the new Intel GT 650M chipset and revised apple cooling architecture perform? Do you hear the fans spinning up when driving both monitors with something simple like a couple of flash adverts/video clips running or even running a game? Does the system really run noticeably cooler than the old MBP?
Appreciate your comments on this, as this may well sway me an upgrade to a MBPr
Thanks - Kev.
