There is a red light constantly emitting from the headphone socket?
I can not listen to sound unless headphones are plugged in - when taken out I get a red light and the volume controls kets seem locked?

And when I goto sytem prefs and check sound it is locked on Digital Out
I have a pic of what I see uploaded at

Please help!
Julian

The red light is your optical audio output... it's normal.

As for your sound troubles, reset PRAM, and use Disk Utility to repair permissions.

Has it always been like this? Or did you notice it happening after the 10.4.9 update?

I tried that reset of the PRAM and checked and repaired disk permissions - it has not helped matters - I have never noticed that red light stuck on before and the inability to select internal speakers in system prefs/sound/output.

ANy other suggestions?
Do you think it is hardware or software issues?
Thanks
Julian

This has been brought up before on the forums. Apparently you have to carefully put a small cable tie in the headphone socket and wiggle until the red light goes out.

(Disclaimer: Not my fault if you damage anything whilst doing this.)
