I started installing XP, but failed/gave up/changed my find after repartitioning... I reset the partition to its original state, but now my computer won't boot properly, saying: no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key (I have to hold down the option key to get anywhere...).

Can anyone tell me how to restore the MBR to its original state? Thanks.

Do you mean you've given up on installing XP in Boot Camp and just want to go back to using OS X?

If so hold option and boot into OS X. In System Preferences > Startup Disk select OS X as your system for startup. If you want to completely remove the Boot Camp partition use Boot Camp Assistant to do so.

If you want to repair a Windows XP MBR then you need to boot to the Windows XP CD and start recovery mode. From there use the command FIXMBR.
