MCE today announced a comprehensive lineup of internal DVD recordable upgrades for the Mac on the market today, including upgrades for the Power Mac G4, Power Mac G4 Cube, PowerBook G4, Power Mac G3, PowerBook G3 (FireWire/Bronze), iBook (Dual USB), iMac (Flat-Panel), iMac (Slot-Loading), and iMac (Rev. A-D).

I don't quite understand why someone would want a DVD-R/RW for a G3 machine. You won't be able to run iDVD with it and making videos would take forever to encode.

The only thing it would be good for is burning DVD data disks. But that's it.
 
At the price for a TiBook upgrade ($449 US), I don't think I'll bother. I can burn DVDs on my other system.

And if I need to do a major data backup, I can start the Powerbook in firewire target mode and hook it up to the other system.
