I upgraded my early 2015 Macbook (1.1 ghz, 8gb ram) to sierra about a week ago (version 10.12.1). Everything worked great initially, but I've been encountering some issues recently.

I've been noticing some rather sluggish performance with much lower battery life (3-3.5 rather than the normal 9-10 that it had been) issues. Opening activity monitor in such cases, I've noticed that "MDS_Stores" appears to get running out of control (greater than 50gb). I've also gotten a message a few (2-3 times) about "Your system is out of virtual application memory" (hard drive shows 132 of 249 gb available), though that hasn't always happened. I've read that MDS_Stores has to do with Spotlight indexing, but that happened just after the upgrade to sierra and I didn't even have issues with performance while that was going on.

It seems like it happens most frequently when I've had the computer closed and then open it up. It does that for 10-15 minutes and then settles back down, at least in terms of ram usage. But sometimes even after things have settled down, the MDS_Stores thing can start running wild again causing the same slow performance and short battery life.

Any thoughts on what might be going on and if there's a fix?
